Avoidance
Avoidance may seem to offer short-term relief, but it often strengthens fear and keeps us stuck. Avoidance is a barrier to living in alignment with our values. Instead of resisting discomfort, your HRS counsellor Alex Honeykats will guide you to acknowledge difficult thoughts and emotions without letting them dictate our actions.
A key practice is defusion—stepping back from unhelpful thoughts rather than being controlled by them. Another is values-based action—choosing behaviours that reflect what truly matters, even in the presence of discomfort.
Next time you feel the urge to avoid, pause. Ask yourself, “What value am I neglecting?” Then, take a small step forward, embracing discomfort as part of growth. In doing so, you break free from avoidance and move toward a more meaningful life.
